THE CHALLENGE OF DRY SKIN
The problem with dry skin is not the intake of insufficient water, though that helps. Neither is it in not applying enough moisturizer. No. in fact, after applying most moisturizers, you will notice that the condition of the skin is only temporarily alleviated.
Studies done to compare the water content of a dry skin to an oily and normal skin didn’t show much significant difference in moisture content (Source: Journal of Cosmetic Chemistry, September/October 1993, page 249).

The studies discovered that the problem with dry skin is the damage done to the intercellular matrix of the skin preventing it from retaining water. This leads to loss of water and the skin becomes dry.
The damage done to the intercellular matrix could be external, as a result of cosmetics applied on it or through the handling or use of harsh chemicals in detergents and so on. This damage can also be initiated internally as a result of some genetic factors. People could be born with dry skin.
The factors causing dry skin could be classified as internal and external. And genetical cause is one of the internal factors that cannot be eliminated.
